A Girl Who Reads

"...I want a girl who reads
Who needs the written word
& uses the added vocabulary
She gleans from novels and poetry
To hold lively conversation
In a range of social situations..."-Mark Grist
We spent this past weekend exploring the local shops & wishing we lived in a bigger city.  We had brunch at a charming cafe in the outskirts of town- "Another Broken Egg" & sipped down the cliche alcoholic beverages.
I had their famous country fried potatoes (devoured them would be a more accurate statement) and french toast (it wasn't nearly as good as the ones we make at home, which was a disappointment), all of which was washed down with the appropriate Mimosa.
After brunch, we explored the outskirts.
It was nice seeing a different side to the city.
It's like visiting a new city altogether; a fresh breath of air.
After exploring, we visited the shops.
We stumbled upon this adorable pop-up tea tent; Piper & Leaf Gardens .
The man behind the booth kindly offered us samples of all the tea; I couldn't leave without having one of their amazing hot teas all to myself. It was perfect for the cold night air and my cold body. If you are ever in the Huntsville area I would recommend stopping by for one of their teas.
After all that walking around we stopped into a bar for a bite to eat.
If you ever have the chance to have Mac N' Cheese Bites with Truffle Dip, don't pass up the opportunity.
They are to die for. I'm drooling now just thinking about them.
After dinner, I wasn't in the mood to go home, so we stopped into the book store.
One of my favorite things to do is scan the shelves finding the perfect book.
I always find myself drawn to mysteries. Maybe, because secretly, I wish I would stumble into the life of Sherlock and be caught up into one of his mysteries.
Growing up, I engrossed myself in books by C.S Lewis, J.R.R Tolkien, & one of my personal favorites, Jane Austen.
I would immerse myself in the lives of Ms. Bennett & her Mr. Darcy, Cupid & Psyche, Mr. Baggins, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and, if I was in the mood for suspense, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's mysteries.
Sometimes, I think we forget the high reading gives us; the sensation of leaving this world for a brief moment and escaping to a new one that isn't quite our own.
There is something to be said about reading.
In the age of technology, we have become so consumed with the what / who / where or how we are perceived on social media sites; we forget to nurture ourselves with a cozy corner, a cup of tea, and a good book.
So, please don't forget to read...
