++Hansen found this sad, neglected and left to the side of the curb chair awhile back. I can remember him saying on the phone, "We can do something with it, it has potential!"
Well, when he brought it home I gave it a good look over and decided it wasn't in too bad of shape and it shouldn't be too difficult to bring back to life; all it needs is a little sanding, a fresh coat of color, and reupholstering!

I thought this would be the perfect DIY tutorial to show how to reupholster; reupholstering can be tough but a small project like this one is a great first project for beginners!
+So, lets get started!
+So, lets get started!
+Staple Gun
+Stain
+Sponges
+Sand Paper (80 grade)
+Sander
+Fabric of your choosing
+Lining Fabric
+Pliers
+Stuffing/Padding (Typically found at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc.)
Step By Step Instructions:
Step 1: Disassemble the seat from your chair
+Using your pliers remove the nails or staples holding your cushion in place.
It was rather easy for us, we only had to flip over the chair and unscrew a few screws and the seat popped right off!
Step 2: Sand, sand, sand!
+You'll probably need to use a sander unless you plan on sanding for days.
As I've mentioned in previous posts if you don't own a power tool or don't have a family/friend to borrow from, it doesn't hurt to ask the maintenance staff at your apartment complex or you can rent one for the day from your local home improvement store!
+You might have to use hand sand paper to get the areas of the chair you can't reach with the sander (surprisingly we didn't have to).
Step 5: Once completely dry, repeat steps 2, 3 & 4
While it dries the "difficult" portion begins; assembly of the cushion.
Step 6: Start by laying your fabric behind the seat
+Then measure out the size of the pieces you will need.
+Make sure you have a little extra on the edges, it will help when you are folding the edges and later you will end up cutting the excess with scissors
Step 7: Place your lining down on a flat surface, next your padding, and then finally the seat
+Slowly but firmly round your fabric over the edge and staple using the staple gun.
+Work your way from corner to corner until you've gathered and stapled all of your cushion.
+Once you've stapled the entire cushion trim the excess fabric using your scissors.
*The trick is to pull firmly and smooth out the fabric as you go!
Step 8: Repeat the same steps with your patterned fabric
Important Note: To create smooth corners pull the edges tightly so the padding itself starts to round over the seat.
Reupholstering really brings new life to furniture, and it will make you second-guess throwing away that ugly 70s chair that has great bones! All you have to do is find some extra comfy padding, fresh fabric, and just a few tools to reupholster it!
I'm still trying to find the perfect place and pillow for our new addition--I'm thinking it would do wonderfully in the guest room!
Sorry for the delay and lack of posts in the last week but I really didn't want to just mass produce posts that were lacking in quality--and honestly, we've been consumed with a few of the projects we've been working on that I wanted to wait till we had finished one of them, so I could share.
